The Harsh Reality of Freelancing

Harsh Reality of Freelancing

If you’re a freelancer, I’m sure you’ll going to agree with me. Freelancing can be really toxic sometimes.

Let me share my own experience with you.

Last year, when I was at the peak of my freelancing career, I was getting multiple orders at that time. I was very happy with my work and love the concept of freelancing.

But then I got this one order from a client which completely changed the way I look at freelance works.

Actually, by mistake, I set the custom offer on that order on unlimited revisions. (If you’ve worked on Fiverr, then you probably know what are revision. If not, then it’s like the changes which the clients can demand.)

So, I set it to unlimited, and man, it really turned out into a nightmare.

No matter how many changes I made. Even though it was just a simple job of writing quotes on his pictures, he was just not accepting my order.

He started to give me different quotes each time I submit my work by saying that that’s not what he demanded. Even though I was just simply copying the quotes that he gave me.

Later on, after around 6 to 7 revisions, I found out that the client was just scamming me and doesn’t have any intention to pay for the work. When I told him to cancel the order he was not even doing that, neither he was accepting my order. Which drastically downgraded my response time, my order completion time, and even my hard-earned ratings of 5 stars.

In the end, I have to cancel that order myself. This order took around one and half months and during this period I didn’t get any orders as well. After the cancellation of this order, Fiverr degraded my account as well. And I was not getting the same orders as before, neither I was getting the same impressions on my gigs.

This is the incident that made me believe that freelancing is not like those youtube videos where you can just lay aside beaches and work on laptops. Believe me, freelancing can be very frustrating sometimes.

So, if you’re too looking forward to starting a career in freelancing then I strongly recommend you to better take a look at the downsides of freelancing as well.
